Cellar Re-Union 14/05/2017

I made my way to our usual meeting place at Denham for 11am departure. The weather was looking very promising therefore the turnout would be higher than usual.

On arrival Steve, Ian, Christian, Elisabeth, Ray and Bill were waiting. Not long before Sam and Rene arrived followed by Roger and Johnny. It was quite a surprise to see so many members but then the weather was on our side. Well done to Christian and Elisabeth for joining us as they travelled from the other side of London. Pat and Brian were to join us at the pub after their prior engement.

Steve led the way at a very reasonable pace and we arrived at the Black Horse Pub. On arrival the car park was quite empty but soon started to fill up. Ian Bullion was already waiting as he has just acquired a Sinnis 250cc. Big Dave arrived by car so that he could pick up Keith Ferries’s wife. Some of you may not be still aware but Keith a regular Cellar boy had passed away not so long ago.

All of sudden there was an invasion of mopeds which filled up the car park. It was a very colourful site. Mind you they would have defiantly stayed away from this place back in the days. It was nice to see Ken Joslin, Eric Patterson and some other familiar faces. There was no BBQ setup in the car park and also very much understaffed at the bar as we struggled to get any drinks. So some of us popped into Tesco’s across the road. After lots of banter and catching up we rode down to the Cellar by the river. After parking up we made a bee line for tea and cakes and as usual Pat went for the ice cream.

This was my first time here and I started to wonder what kind of atmosphere would have been especially with so many Rockers and also how the Modes would have been terrified. And imagining how some of the moped got thrown into the river. Of cause the Cellar is now turned into some kind of hotel.

Alas It was time to head home with a perfect day’s rid-out. It was nice to see few more member and we even managed to sign up two new members namely Roger Dale and Ian Bullion. Welcome to the Busy Bee lads!

Cellar Reunion 15/05/2016

10 bikes in all met up at Denham meeting point which must have been a great turn out for a very long time. Len even brought Fred along! Welcome back Fred! The roll call was as follows:- Steve was on his Combo, Ron, Ian, Ray, Big Dave, Bill, Brian and I.

This was looking to be a great day for riding as the sun was out however it was still tad bit cold which we all knew would burn out. We arrived at our destination which was the Black Horse pub just before lunch. This did not stop some of the lads to have breakfast or call it an early lunch also known in some other circles as “Brunch”. This generally consisted of ham or sausages, eggs and chips.

This year the landlord of the Black Horse pub decided not to have BBQ instead opting to make food to order which suited us just fine. Colin and Max turned up a little bit later as the time went by more and more bikes started filling up the car park. Some of the classics were very impressive as well as modern bikes. Couldn’t help to notice that the numbers were lower than last year which is becoming a norm everywhere we go now a days.

After more cups of tea and coffee and plenty of catching up and banter with old friends as well as acquaintances. Brian and I decided to pay a visit to the Cellar which was the site of a very well-known café back in the sixties as many of you know.

The rest of the gang decided to head back to avoid the congestion due to Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. Steve decided not to join us as he was on his combo which could have paused difficulties in tackling the barriers by the river bank and so we said our goodbyes. As it happened there was no more than usual Sunday traffic in the town centre.

There was only couple of bikes there such a cry as back then it would have been over 100 bikes. Brian and I made our way to the café on the front where we used congregate all those years ago. We sat in the warm sunshine enjoying our ice cream. We got chatting to the lads on the scooters and reminiscing of the old days. It seemed very odd that rockers have been overtaken by mods as there must have been around 20 scooter and only one bike which was ours.

Brian pointed out to them that had it been the sixties some of their scooters would have ended up in the river. After a stroll by the bank we returned back to our bike where Keith and other biker were sitting in the sun enjoying the peace and quiet. We said bye to them and headed home. The traffic was very light and we arrived home in very good time. Very enjoyable day out with a great day’s ride!

Cellar Reunion 24/05/ 2015

A beautiful morning for a ride out, set off early to meet Big Dave and Sam at Mc Donald’s in Uxbridge for a coffee.

Brian Watts turned up in his car to see us off. Unfortunately, he had hurt his ankle and as a result he is unable to ride.

After a good old gossip before leaving him to meet the rest of the gang at Denham. Steve, Bob, Len, Ray and Bill we’re wait for us. Not so many of us this year as lot of our gang had opted to go to Duxford VE-Day Air show instead which is very poplar and happened to be on the same day.

We had a very leisurely run to Windsor, the only person to go wrong was Brian (luckily) no one followed and we soon caught up with the rest of the gang.

Max turned up just after us so first stop was to the Pub for refreshments. There was no Barbecue this year but had plenty of choice on the menu. The weather was very kind to us as we had no rain. The Cellar run was not as big as it has been in the past, but there were still plenty of bikes and old faces to see and lots to talk about. About 2:30 few dark clouds appeared so a few of us decide to go down to the river and have photos taken outside the cellar where the bikers use to go in the 60’s. Before going to our favourite café for a coffee (in my case an ice cream). It was lovely just to sit and watch the world go by. Suddenly a few drops of rain made us decide it was time to go home.

A great day to be had by us all.
